Max adds ‘Extra Member’ fee

April 23, 2025

In a bid to crack down on password-sharing, streaming service Max is now requiring members to add an ‘Extra Member’ to their account and pay a higher subscription fee -much like its rivals – if someone else is using the account in a different household.

For an additional $7.99 a month (regardless of the subscription plan), primary account holders in the US can now invite someone outside their home to create their own separate profile under the existing subscription. This new feature, which has gone live immediately, gives the ‘Extra Member’ their own login credentials and the ability to stream on one device at a time. They can also continue to “enjoy all other benefits included in the primary account owner’s base plans,” said Warner Bros Discovery.

Subscribers can only add one extra member per account.

Adding an extra membership (with ads) on Netflix currently costs $6.99 per month in the US, with a simiilar add-on for Disney+ also at the same price.
