Channel 4 has acquired suspense thriller Long Bright River from Sony Pictures Television.
Based on Liz Moore’s New York Times bestselling novel, Long Bright River is an eight-part limited drama which tells the story of Mickey, a police officer who patrols a Philadelphia neighbourhood hard-hit by the opioid crisis. When a series of murders begins in the neighbourhood, Mickey realises that her personal history might be related to the case.
The series stars Amanda Seyfried, Nicholas Pinnock, Ashleigh Cummings, Callum Vinson and John Doman.
Polly Scates, Head of Acquisitions, Channel 4, commented: “We were immediately hooked by this propulsive thriller and Amanda Seyfried’s scene stealing performance as Mickey. We’re thrilled that Channel 4 will be the home of Long Bright River in the UK and to bring this compelling series to our viewers across both streaming and linear.”
Long Bright River comes from SPT and UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group. Nikki Toscano and Liz Moore write and executive produce, with Toscano serving as showrunner. Neal H. Moritz, Pavun Shetty and Amanda Lewis executive produce for Original Film and Amy Pascal executive produces for Pascal Pictures. Russell Rothberg also serves as executive producer. Hagar Ben-Asher directs and executive produces the first episode. SPT holds the international distribution rights.
UK transmission details will be announced soon.
