Salomon, WBD expand partnership for GTWS

April 16, 2025

Salomon has partnered with Warner Bros Discovery (WBD) Sports Europe to broadcast and support the Golden Trail World Series (GTWS) circuit, the leading short distance trail running circuit.

Through this extended partnership, WBD Sports Europe will oversee the production, distribution and localisation of multi-market broadcasting of GTWS races, the ongoing promotion of the circuit on digital media platforms, as well as marketing the series internationally to attract future partners and sponsors.

“Salomon is one of the most successful, most-recognisable and growing sports brands,” said Patrick Maitrot, Head of International Sales & Partnership at WBD Sports Europe. “We are excited to launch our new 360-degree collaboration and look forward to working with an innovative partner in Salomon to expand trail running into new markets. We believe in the growth potential of the product alongside the sporting format for the Golden Trail World Series, which is recognised as the flagship event on the global trail running calendar. We are confident that our combined sports and storytelling expertise coupled with WBD’s production capabilities, unmatched global scale and proven track record of elevating sports, will support the continued growth of trail running through greater international exposure than ever before.”

Live coverage of the series will be available across WBD’s linear channels including Eurosport (Europe) and TNT Sports (UK & Ireland) as well as live and on-demand streaming via its platforms Max and discovery+, complemented by a network of broadcast partners, including free-to-air channels and OTT platforms. In addition, free video content will be accessible through its social media and digital news platforms.

“Since the early 2000s, Salomon’s running products and international athletes have contributed to the international growth of trail running – now a world-renowned sport and drawing thousands of runners to each race. Salomon brought the GTWS to live television for the first time ever in 2023 with Eurosport, which was a milestone for the sport,” added Scott Mellin, Salomon Global Chief Brand Officer. “The GTWS is a highly entertaining, TV-ready format with races lasting around two hours, featuring steep climbs and technical descents as well as a ‘flower’ format that allows spectators to see more of the race and better engage with the athletes. We have found the perfect partner in WBD, one of the largest and long-lasting sport broadcasters in the world, and we are confident that together we can shape the future of this sport worldwide.”

For the 2025 season, the GTWS features eight trail races:

· Kobe Trail on April 19th in Japan
· Great Wall race on April 26th in China
· Golfo dell Isola race on May 17th in Italy
· Zegama-Aizkorri on May 25th in Spain
· Broken Arrow Skyrace on June 22nd in the US
· Tepec Trail on June 29th, marking the first GTWS stop in Mexico
· Pitz Alpine Glacier Trail on August 2nd in Austria
· Sierre-Zinal on August 9th in Switzerland.

The 2025 GTWS Grand Finale will take place in October, set in the heart of Italy’s Trentino region, in the Ledro Valley, near Lake Garda.
