Azercosmos announces leadership transition

Samaddin Asadov has stepped down from his position as Chair of the Board of Azercosmos. Asadov has been appointed Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport of the Republic of Azerbaijan by the order of the President.
During this transition, Dunay Badirkhanov (pictured) will oversee operations. He has been with Azercosmos since 2011, in various positions, from a core team member undergoing international training in satellite engineering and operations in preparation for the launch and operations of Azerbaijan’s first satellite, Azerspace-1 to Director of Satellite and Ground-based Systems. Since 2018, he has served as Vice-Chair of the Board of Azercosmos.
Beyond his contributions to Azercosmos, Badirkhanov actively participates in activities of International Astronautical Federation since 2019. He served as the International Program Committee Co-Chair and was an executive member of the Organizing Committee for the 74th International Astronautical Congress (IAC) – Baku Chapter, held in October 2023. He is also an active member of the Space Communications and Navigation Committee (SCAN) and the Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity Administrative Committee (IDEA).
Azercosmos said in a company statement, the company “continues to strengthen its position as a leading player in the global space industry, fostering international cooperation and driving technological advancements. Our team remains committed to innovation and excellence in satellite services”.
