FilmRise uses AI for content quality upgrade
February 24, 2025

FilmRise, the US-based film and television studio and streaming network, has announced the debut of a proprietary AI initiative designed to convert SD content to HD. This initiative will launch with the true crime franchise series, Forensic Files, which FilmRise distributes through a long-term arrangement with IP owner Content Partners.
The company’s technology team, led by CTO Thibault Hermenault, has developed a process that combines commercially available AI tools with the precision of its in-house editorial team, successfully upconverting thousands of hours of content to HD quality.
Danny Fisher, CEO of FilmRise, commented: “This new initiative embodies FilmRise’s core mission to enhance the viewer experience for both our audiences and our streaming partners. We are committed to continually improving the quality of the programmes we acquire and distribute, catering to both consumer audiences and our streaming partners.”
“At Content Partners, we are committed to preserving and enhancing the legacy of iconic film and television content, and FilmRise has been an invaluable partner in that mission,” said Scott Hemming, Executive Vice President at Content Partners. “Their innovative approach to AI-driven restoration ensures that Forensic Files continues to captivate audiences in the best possible quality, providing an improved viewing experience while staying true to the integrity of the series. We are thrilled to see Forensic Files reach new heights with this initiative and look forward to continuing our successful collaboration with FilmRise.”
In addition to AI assisted in-house initiatives like the one utilised for Forensic Files, FilmRise continues to tap a full range of ways to enhance and augment its library of 30,000 movies and TV episodes for SD to HD opportunities. FilmRise seeks out collaborative distribution partnerships and exclusives such as the kind that produced a 4K version of the popular indie comedy, Party Girl or that resulted in the acquisition of Classic TV Western series Death Valley Days in HD.
Thibault Hermenault, CTO at FilmRise added: “The new AI tools available are incredibly exciting and enables us to bring the restoration process in-house. Our hybrid process allows us to upconvert older content quicker and cost-effectively without losing the human touch, ensuring that audiences can truly appreciate the difference. In addition to the enhanced picture quality for the end user, this is a real value add for our streaming partners as well as our content partners.”
FilmRise has remastered in HD 12 seasons / 326 episodes of Forensic Files, which is currently streaming on The Roku Channel, Amazon Prime Video, Tubi, Vizio Watch Free+, Samsung TV Plus, LG Channels, Sling Freestream and more.
