April 24, 2025

LG Electronics has announced the arrival of the Xbox app (in Beta) on LG Smart TVs, allowing users to stream Xbox games on the big screen at home. Gamers in over 25 countries are now able to play the latest indie hits to the biggest AAA titles directly through the Xbox app on their LG Smart TVs.

Accessible from the Gaming Portal and the LG Apps, the Xbox app enables LG TV owners to jump straight into gameplay from day one with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, launching hundreds of titles from Activision, Bethesda, Blizzard, Mojang, Xbox Game Studios and more – with just a compatible controller. The Xbox app is available on LG TVs and select smart monitors running the latest webOS 24 and newer versions, and it will soon be available on StanbyME screens.

With an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate membership, users can explore a library of games, from iconic titles like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 to popular titles like Avowed, South of Midnight as well as upcoming releases including Towerborne. Game Pass Ultimate members can also stream a select catalogue of games they already own, such as NBA 2K25 and Hogwarts Legacy, adding more flexibility to their gaming experience.

Through its partnership with Xbox and the launch of the Xbox app, first announced in January, LG says it “elevates gaming with the precision of game-changing OLED TVs and the brilliant and vivid action of the latest QNED TVs, including unrivaled gameplay upscaled to 4K for lifelike visuals, while offering a convenient interface on LG Smart TVs to enjoy a vast library of games with cloud gaming”.

Xbox cloud gaming is available in the UK, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and USA.

Gaming Portal is available on LG screens running webOS23 and beyond in the UK, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Ireland, Mexico, Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkiye and USA and will expand to more markets and down to LG screens running webOS 6.0 by the second quarter.

Menawhile, LG Electronics has announced consolidated revenue of KRW 22.74 trillion (€13.9bn) and operating profit of KRW 1.26 trillion for the first quarter of 2025. This marks the highest first-quarter revenue in the company’s history and the sixth consecutive year in which operating profit surpassed KRW 1 trillion during the first quarter. Strong performance was driven by qualitative growth across key business areas, especially in B2B, non-hardware segments (such as subscriptions and webOS platform) and direct-to-consumer (D2C) sales.

Looking to the second quarter, LG anticipates increased uncertainty due to shifting global trade policies and increasing market competition. To address these challenges, the company says it will expand its portfolio of new and volume-zone products, while deepening its focus on subscription and online businesses. Additional priorities include focusing on opportunities in B2B such as built-in appliances and external sales of key components like motors and compressors. Profitability efforts will centre on enhancing cost competitiveness through optimizing operational efficiency.

The LG Media Entertainment Solution Company posted first-quarter revenue of KRW 4.95 trillion and operating profit of KRW 4.9 billion. While TV demand remained soft, growth in webOS-based advertising and content services made a greater contribution to performance. Revenue remained in line with the previous year, though profitability was impacted by rising LCD panel prices and higher marketing spend.
